Julie McCoy MSW, LCSW

My name is Julie McCoy, MSW, LCSW,therapist and owner of McCoy Counseling Center.  I have been working in the human service field since 1999.  I completed two internships at Rivendell Behavioral Health Services and was employed there for eight years.  I worked as a Mental Health Associate, Assessment and Referral Specialist and Supervisor of Assessment and Referral.  This experience gave me the hands on experience needed to work with individuals with severe mental illness.  I also have seven years of experience at NECCO, working with foster youth, foster parents, and biological parents.  I provided services there as a Therapist, Case Coordinator and Treatment Director.  I also have experience as a therapist with Hope Harbor, Sexual Assault Prevention Center and Living Well Healthcare doing therapy with medication assisted substance abuse treatment clients.   

I am a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist through the Grief Recovery Institute.  I am currently providing the one on one seven week grief recovery programs.  This program is highly effective as I have experienced it myself as a participant.  I will be holding an open seminar soon for more information on the group programmatics as they become available.   

I have received Continuing Education Units for Suicide Assessment and Prevention, Ethics, Domestic Violence, Pediatric Head Trauma, EMDR, and Pregnancy and Infant Loss. 

Beside clinical experience, I also teach adjunct at Western Kentucky University and Brescia University.  I was awarded the Field Instructor of the Year through Western Kentucky University.  I am very comfortable with speaking and providing education to others.   I am also a former  member of the Departmental Advisory Committee for the Social Work Department at Western Kentucky University.  

I am a contracted provider of supervision for the state of Kentucky.  I currently have five practitioners whom I supervise.   I have had supervisees in all sectors of human service to include medical social work, community mental health, and psychotherapy,  I facilitate learning for students to master the dynamics of group process, theoretical basis for practice, ethical considerations, and cultural competency.  I also share other techniques that I have found helpful throughout practice.  Please see the supervision page under services for tips on supervision. 

I am the founder of Steps for Samuel, an annual event to raise awareness and healing for family and friends affected by Pregnancy and Infant Loss.  This annual even has been occurring yearly in October since 2013.  Please see the Steps for Samuel link under services for more information. 

I am a proud member of the National Association of Social Workers and pride myself on adhering to the Ethics outlined in the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics. 

I am credentialed with many insurance companies to include Kentucky Medicaid, Medicare, Anthem and Cigna.
